Pecan Trail Mix for Dead Eats: Recipes Inspired by The Walking Dead
Does your mind wander when you think about your favorite tv show? Of course I’m talking about The Walking Dead. Not while you’re watching it of course but when you’re pondering the latest episode, do you ever think about the details? I do. Naturally that inspired this Pecan Trail Mix.
When Carl offers Father Gabriel pecans it seemed like a very selfless gesture. They didn’t have much but it was still up for grabs. While I was shopping for dinner a few nights after watching that episode, I saw the price of pecans. They aren’t the most inexpensive nut if you go for store bought and yet in the zombie apocalypse they were fortunate enough to find a pecan tree!
So to give this a bit of a realistic twist, I made Pecan Trail Mix. Since we don’t need to forage at the moment I went for what was in the pantry but I’d imagine fresh berries would have a better chance of being a part of this trail mix if the dead came back to life. If we were lucky, we’d find a bag of chocolate chips to indulge. 🙂
There was so much more going on in Season 5 Episode 2. On the move gain and coming across the church and the bus, it seemed like a good idea. Sort of torn about the Carol subject before, I was so happy to see her back. Yeah she could have made it on her own but she was part of the group. Besides I think Daryl missed her.
Speaking of Carol, she really has made a journey from abused wife and mother to strong badass who can rescue the entire group all by herself. I could go on and on but this is where I leave you to start snacking on Pecan Trail Mix and entering the giveaway below!

Try Anything Once Culinary
- 8 oz pecan halves
- ½ cup unseasoned pepitas salted is ok but not flavored with seasoning
- 1 cup dried berries
- Preheat oven to 300 degrees F.
- Lay pecan halves in a single layer on a baking sheet.
- Bake for 10 minutes.
- Stir and bake for another 5 minutes.
- Cool before using.
- Mix ingredients in a bowl and start snacking!
- Start off with roasted pecans if you want but I usually buy them raw because I never know how I'll want to prepare them: sweet or salty. For this trail mix, I just oven roast them without salt.
