My review of Sun Basket’s meal ingredient delivery service.
Have you ever had dinner ingredients delivered to your home? My other half and I had been talking about finding a company we could grow to love that delivers ingredients worth serving right to our doorstep. Including recipes that will work. I love to cook and so does he but sometimes we want a break from hunting down recipes and shopping for ingredients. To us, it was worth trying something like this to see if it would give us a little break so we can focus on just cooking. We want to support our farmers and receive good quality produce and meats but we weren’t sure how to go about finding a company with everything we wanted. When I was asked to try out Sun Basket I was interested. They seem to have everything we were looking for.
So I agreed to try it out and decided to post a review because of the interest a lot of you have shown in a service like this one.
I’ve marked the topics for my review in bold so you can easily find what you are looking for below. I’ve written my review first and at the bottom I’ll describe what Sun Basket is and give you a link to their website. If you have any specific questions about my experience with Sun Basket, I’d be happy to answer them! Feel free to leave a comment at the end of the post.

The Contents of the Box
Sun Basket sends a box with ingredients and recipes to your doorstep. Literally. I came home one afternoon and saw this waiting for me! Packages are always fun but it’s even more exciting when I know there’s food.
The ingredients were labeled so I knew which ingredients went with which recipe, produce on the top and meat on the bottom packed on all sides with ice. Nice. I’d always wondered how perishables were shipped and my other half was concerned but we were both impressed. The ice was still cold and the meat was at a safe temperature.
All the ingredients included are just enough for the recipe without leftover so there wasn’t any waste. The produce in my box was fresh and all of it usable. The meat was sealed in a plastic bag so no liquids from the meats escaped the packaging.
To prepare these recipes I grabbed the recipe, the ingredients and laid them out. Besides a little chopping and zesting, there wasn’t a whole lot to do for prep.
I liked the pictures. It gave me an idea of what the food was supposed to look like after I completed the recipe and it really did draw me in when I chose the recipes from the menu. I read them over a few times before making each recipe and with each one, all the steps were thorough and nothing was left out.
These recipes used flavors I wouldn’t normally reach for, especially the shrimp and asparagus risotto with leeks, lemon and homemade broth, but that was the recipe we loved the most. The tender shrimp with the bright lemon was such a great pair. Tender asparagus was a total bonus and the homemade broth was so simple to make. I’ll have to try something similar when I use leeks.
My Favorite Things
I love to cook and so does my other half. Some days I beg for a good, solid recipe to fall out of the sky so I can just cook without hunting down inspiration, trying to find a reliable recipe source to fit that inspiration and making sure everyone in my house will eat said inspiration/ recipe without a fuss. Since we had been talking about finding a meal box delivery company this opportunity came at the perfect time. I tried it and I find it very convenient. This will be perfect for girls night when my other half works, step-mother and step-son night when we bond and date nights. The kids like to cook too and they both agreed these recipes would be something they’d like to cook themselves.
Since these recipes use ingredients and techniques that I rarely think to try, I was inspired to try new things after preparing these meals. Making my own scallion oil was so simple and added so much flavor to the dish, why don’t I ever try anything like that? And the broth with leeks- so simple and so going to happen again. Soon. I came away inspired.
Please note: You are able to manage your delivery settings by logging in to your account. If you’re going to be away on vacation for a week, you can make arrangements in your account. See the Sun Basket website here for more details and for $30.00 off.
There are only two things I would like to see from Sun Basket in the future.
First, I’d love the option to send a basket to a friend. This would be a really great gift to send, in my opinion. (Update: Sun Basket now has gift certificates!) And secondly, I wish there was an option to purchase more meals for family dinner night but since we have the option to order the same meal multiple times, that’s pretty much the same thing. 🙂 You’re able to order up to three meals with the same recipe for a total of six servings.
I was asked to review Sun Basket and share my experience with you. Because of the good quality of ingredients, recipes and service I have received I am now an affiliate with them. I can answer any questions you have about my experience with them.
