How to Grow Lettuce in Pots
The first spring in my house, the soil was pretty sandy and didn’t seem to be a good base soil for a garden so I grew everything in pots. The lettuce grew so well the slugs loved almost every leaf! 🙂
I like to have a long planter with lettuce on my deck railing so I can see it grow and remember it’s out there to add a little crunch to sandwiches.
How to Grow Lettuce in a Garden
In the few years that followed, I was able to grow lettuce in the ground. It did best in pots because I ended up putting that copper tape around the pots to keep the slugs out. If you want to try growing lettuce in the ground, here’s a good video to help.
Slugs have been the biggest challenge for me here. I live in Washington state and the slugs here seem to be extremely resilient. I’ve tried Corry’s, putting out beer, wood shavings, eggshells and geraniums. Copper tape works well but the best thing so far is the gardener snakes. There’s a family of them in my garden and I leave them there! They love the slugs so it’s a total win win.
