When it comes to making your own homemade iced latte at home without an espresso machine, it can be easier than you might think but the trick is to find your own balance of flavor and sweetness. The recipe below is a guide to help you discover how to make your latte at home.
I love using instant espresso (coffee) powder in my baking recipes, especially cookies, and sometimes even in a dry rub or marinade for meats but for a homemade latte without a machine, this is a great solution for iced coffee at home.
If you prefer this drink for your morning coffee I suggest you give this a try before it really matters (i.e. as an afternoon treat) so you can figure out what you prefer. It’s never a good idea to experiment with that first cup of coffee, right?? I used Medaglia d’Oro instant espresso which is pretty good or I also like to use a Starbucks Via packet.
In the video above you’ll see I used one teaspoon of instant espresso powder and two teaspoons of sugar in a short glass. It was sweet with a very faint coffee flavor. For a latte with syrups and flavors, the Medaglia d’Oro is just fine if you ask me. To enjoy more coffee flavor with minimal to no sweeteners, I find the Starbucks Via tastes more like the lattes you would find at a coffee shop. In my opinion, the Columbian Via packets don’t have the super smoky flavor similar to the espresso shots pulled from their machines. You might disagree so just find what works for you.
I used cow’s milk in the video because this first latte wasn’t made for me. A blend of almond and coconut milk is a delicious dairy free option or another favorite of mine is oat milk.
Take a few minutes and whip up one of these and see how you like it! No machine needed.
Below you’ll see a printable recipe that isn’t really a recipe but more of a guide. This is how I make a sweet faint flavor of coffee without an espresso machine. How sweet do you like your coffee?
You can also dissolve instant espresso powder in water and use it to make a dirty chai. Watch me make an iced dirty chai in this video.
- instant espresso powder
- hot water
- granulated sugar or the sweetener of your choice
- Prepare a rocks glass or a glass of similar size by filling with ice.
- Combine 1 tsp. instant espresso powder in 1 oz. hot water.
- Stir to dissolve.
- Add 2 tsp. sugar or sweetener to the coffee.
- Again stir to dissolve.
- Pour over ice.
- Add milk.
Measurements are used in the video.
These measurements make a sweet latte with just a hint of coffee flavor. Please use this as a guide and adjust to fit your preference.
